Humans of Passages was a fun and interesting way for me to interact with the class of 2017 and practice for my future career in journalism and photography. One of my biggest challenges with this project was having to be so involved with my classmates because I am usually not as involved with my peers. Another challenge was that I needed to change around my schedule to do the interviews, but it was well worth it because I made new friendships and connections with students and teachers.
My advice for future students is to really do something that you care about and something that you want to learn more about because doing something that's easy will get boring over time and you wont grow as much as a person, rather if you did something you didn't know anything about and learn more everyday. That will result in you growing way more than people who did things that they know and are familiar with. |

The Process: Humans of passages began as Humans of Downtown Denver but I was unable to commit to this project so in the process of stressing out about finding a new passage midway through the project Mrs. Hansen and I thought about Humans of Passages. We decided to use this as a way to inform the future juniors of DCIS what they will be doing and what they should expect for passages. So, I changed portions of my proposal to comply with HOP instead of HODD. I also began planning and making appointments with other passages teachers when I can come in and interview and photograph students. I made my weebly website where I posted the responses and passages of 35 students. My last goal is to be able to put this information on the DCIS website for future students and parents to look at whether their student is here now or if they will be coming in the next few years. I began in late March and finished the 3rd to last week of May, it was a lot later than I wanted to be working on my passage but it was a good thing in the long run because it turned out way better than it would have if I did HODD.
Photography: My use of photography is a way for me to experience what it's going to be like in a professional photography career. As this is one of my future career choices. I began enjoying photography in the middle of my sophomore year and have been photographing and multiple events, such as the Cesar Chavez March, The DCIS honoring the graduates Powwow, Quinceneras, and at the Denver Bridge Project to name a few.
Journalism: I'm using journalism because this is my second choice for a career and I felt like I needed to practice this more to be successful. So I used this as an opportunity to practice. This is my introduction to journalism in a sort, and so far its been a busy yet fun experience.
My hopes for this passage: My hopes for this passage is that it'll inform the students about what passages is and what your passage can be about, which is just about anything you can think of. I want to inform those who are afraid of the class that there is nothing to be afraid of and not to listen to the terrible rumors about this class. You get the whole class period to ensure your success in taking an extra step to getting your second diploma which is your DCIS diploma. I hope that this website did help even the younger grades (6-9) and helped better prepare them for their high school careers.
